The Annual Competition
Through your donations and membership, we are building the financial means to award first prizes of $4,000 in all of our age categories, which is approximately the cost of one year’s music lesson tuition.
Your donations and membership help us secure international-caliber judges for the competition, giving our students exposure and access to internationally prominent musicians.
The final round of the annual competition is open to the public, offering a chance to be inspired by the talented young musicians of the Bay Area and to observe the judging process at work.
The Winners Concert and VIP Reception
The culmination of the annual competition is the Winners Concert. Held annually in the Spring at The Green Room at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco, this gala showcases the incredible talent of our competition winners in a spectacular venue that is always a night to remember. Membership includes tickets to this highly-anticipated event.
Members at our Supporting level and above receive a complimentary invitation to our VIP Reception, featuring a selection of fine food and wines, as well as an opportunity to hear from and interact with our young performers, board members, and judges.
Concerts / Events
Private concerts and social events are organized for the enjoyment and performance opportunity of our members. Even for an extraordinary artist, it is not easy to have the chance to be heard. Our events and house concerts provide an opportunity to develop a student’s performing abilities in a private, discerning environment open only to Pacific Musical members and their guests.
Our Online Community
The Pacific Musical Society & Foundation is creating an online network connecting our competition participants, past and present, with each other as well as serious students, music lovers, and professionals around the world. The network will provide a support structure for those just starting their careers, while illuminating the challenges they may face on their path to success. Together we will learn and discuss, bring to public attention, and attempt to remedy the multi-faceted systemic difficulties that are encumbering the art of classical music.
One person is powerless to petition for change, but together we can act to transform problems into new opportunities and approaches, and bring renewed vigor into a system that has struggled to correct itself from within. By sharing ideas in a single forum, by connecting with others throughout the world--professional, amateur, serious student, interested parents--who may share the same vision or hopes, we can learn together what needs to be done to ensure a vibrant future for the art.
As a member, you will be a part of this movement, with access to our online network as it develops, and a voice in our petition and vision for change.
